Bangle bracelets

Choosing a bangle

A bangle is sized by its inner diameter, not by length. Tuck your thumb into your palm, measure around the widest part of the hand and divide by 3.14; most women need 58–65 mm. Thin bangles of 2–3 mm are made for stacking three or four together, where they chime softly; wider or stone-set bangles are worn alone. A hinged bangle opens with a clasp and can therefore fit more closely than a slip-on.

Bangles are the structure in achain braceletstack: one solid line among soft links. If a closed circle is too tight over your hand, an opencuffslides on from the side, and atennis braceletgives a flexible line with a clasp. Inner diameter, width and weight are listed on each product page.

How do I measure for a bangle?

Thumb tucked in, measure around the widest part of your hand and divide by 3.14 for the diameter. Compare with the inner diameter on the product page; most women need 58–65 mm.

Should a bangle fit tight or loose?

It should slide over the hand with a little effort and then move freely on the wrist. If it barely passes the hand it will be comfortable; if it slides on with no resistance it may be too big.

How many bangles can I stack?

Three or four thin bangles look best together; one wide or stone-set bangle is worn alone or with a fine chain.
